Thanks for the warning, I'll stay well clear of it.

Absolutely!!

I have had some very nasty experiences with previous versions of both
the anti-virus & firewall features. Whilst I have no direct experience
of this version I do feel inclined to waste my time trying it.

These days I use AVG Antivirus and Kerio Firewall (both with free
versions for home users) and have yet to find a serious downside with
either.

Replying to one's own post is so naff don't you think, but I do feel
compelled to correct one small point....

I *DON'T* feel inclined to waste my time trying it.

Heh, I'd go a little further than that, if name-calling was my thing...

I once bought a copy of Norton System Utilities or whatever it was
called, it was supposed to super-tweak my PC. It actually slowed it
down to a crawl, and ended up corrupting a lot of stuff. I had a
nightmare of a time uninstalling it (same with their antivirus package).

I will never touch another product by Symantec.

Oh, so it wasn't just me then! LOL, but I'm going back to the days when you
could get it on 6 floppy disks ;-)

It`s gone away again now anyway ... Reformat and reinstall of a different
OS. Some ppl do like Symantec and wont use anything else for some reason
that was why I originally posted.

Who are these people? we may be able to sell them Tartan paint!

I'm also in the boat of having wasted far too much time 'uninstalling'
Norton security products over the past few years from various computer
systems that I have worked on professionally and privately. The uninstalling
is meant to be in brackets as that's not what the uninstaller actually
does... it leaves you with a mess to dig out of the registry.

In general (from my own experience) home users seem to be mainly using
Norton pureley because of the advertising and the fact that years ago Norton
got good press for their products (i'm talking 80's to early-mid 90's and
Norton utilities for DOS etc) then they learn the painful truth.

AVG or Mcafee would be my preferred options today, at work I have to support
Sophos and that is proving a struggle as it is not proving easy to configure
silent updates. So somebody is typing away, the auto update task starts and
grabs the system focus so that when they look back at the Word page or email
they are missing most of the last sentence. This is a co. where 95% of
computer users type looking at the keyboard NOT the screen.
